Two men jailed 12 months for stealing underground cables


An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced two persons Dickson Boamah and Charles Coffie to 12 months imprisonment in hard labour.
 
The court presided over by Aboagye Tandoh also fined them with 800 penalty units which means that they are also to pay nine thousand, six hundred cedis each.
 
In default, the two will serve a jail term of four years.

Dickson Boamah who is an engineer and Charles Coffie a scrap dealer were convicted for stealing underground cables of Vodafone Ghana valued at forty four thousand six hundred and forty Ghana cedis.
 
Dickson and two others were engaged by the company to recover underground cables at Dansoman and its environs and transport them to Tema but instead sold some of the cables for eight thousand cedis.

The buyers transported the cables to a bush and burnt them.

They later hired a truck and were in the process of transporting them to Agbgbloshie when the youth of the town arrested them on suspicion that the cables were stolen ones.
 
They were subsequently handed over to the Amasaman police.

Upon interrogation, Charles Coffie mentioned Dickson and two others as their source of supply.
