No bribery has taken place among committee members – Joe Osei- Owusu

Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Appointments committee of Parliament Joseph Osei-Owusu, has categorically denied accusations that he took money from Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko to give to Members of the Appointments Committee of Parliament to push through Mr. Agyarko's nomination. 

Three minority MPs have alleged that there were attempts to bribe them as members of the Appointments Committee to push through the Minister’s nomination.   

Mr Osei-Owusu stated his role in the whole saga when he appeared before the 5-member committee probing the bribery allegations at its first sitting today (Feb. 15). 

He is alleged to have attempted to bribe each of the Minority members on the committee with three thousand Ghana cedis provided by Mr. Agyarko.

Joseph Osei-Owusu said he was shocked at how the issue had been exaggerated. He denied the allegation and still stands by his initial comments that the issue is not true.

Meanwhile, the committee resumes sitting on Friday (Feb. 17), at 11 am. Expected on Friday is the Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko.
