Accra faces serious sanitation crisis The Capital City of Accra seems to be under refuse. Every commercial enclave, markets and lorry stations are engulfed by refuse. Public Relations Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Numo Blafo, says the situation has become a serious challenge which management is looking at critically. Numo Blafo told GBC's George Ankrah that health officers would embark on house to house inspection to ascertain whether all houses have refuse containers. On the seriousness of the reckless behaviour of traders and drivers dumping refuse anywhere, Numo Blafo said apart from swift prosecution of offenders, there is also the risk of an outbreak of cholera during the raining season.
