Parties asked to prioritise food and nutrition in campaigns

Stakeholders at a conference on food and nutrition in Accra have entreated candidates for the December polls to prioritise food and nutrition as well as the attainment of food security in their policies.

The Chief Executive of SEND Ghana, Siapha Kamara said although Ghana has chalked up major successes in reducing malnutrition from 35% to 19%, there is still a lot to be done because the figure still falls below the international standards.  

He said the economy loses more than two billion dollars annually due to the negative impact of child malnutrition.  

Mr Kamara added that, the onus now lies on political parties to include policies that will help in the treatment and prevention of malnutrition in order to save the country some needed funds for other development activities.
