David Maraga sworn in as Kenya's Chief Justice

David Maraga is the new chief justice of Kenya after he was sworn in at a ceremony in State House in the capital Nairobi.
 
He succeeds Willy Mutunga who decided to retire early to give the Supreme Court enough time to be reconstituted ahead of elections next year.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, who presided over the swearing in ceremony, asked the new Chief Justice to forge a better relationship with the other arms of government.

He also asked him to clear a backlog of cases, including some 600 corruption cases that are "dragging on in court.
