GETFund assures education colleges of funds to improve facilities

The Ghana Education Trust Fund, GETFund, has assured Colleges of Education of making money available annually through the Council for Tertiary Education to improve their faculties in line with their new tertiary status. 

Since 2010, GETFund has spent 300 million cedis out of one point two billion cedis earmarked for funding tertiary institutions. 

The Administrator of the GETFund, Sam Garba, announced this when he addressed the teacher trainees and masters at the Foso College of Education in the Central Region. 

He said between 2001 and 2008, Colleges of Education received just 600 thousand cedis due to their status. 

Mr. Garba explained that the colleges were neither secondary nor tertiary according to the GETFund Act. 

He said the 300 million cedis has been spent on infrastructure and other facilities to enable the colleges to operate as tertiary institutions. 

The GETFund Administrator advised Principals of Colleges of Education to do target spending of the money that is made available to them annually. 

This will enable them to complete one project or the other before starting a new one. Mr Garba assured the authorities at the Foso College of Education after an appeal of a girls hostel to get them out of their current precarious situation.
