Nestlé supports over 6,000 farmers for increased profitability

Nestle Ghana through its Nestlé Cocoa Plan program has offered improved farming services and support to more than six thousand cocoa farmers across cocoa growing communities. 

The assistance which is complementing existing interventions is aimed at increasing cocoa farmers’ profitability, secure high-quality cocoa beans and address issues like child labour, gender inequality and poor social conditions. 

The company is also supporting grain farmers in Northern Ghana to produce quality maize and other cereals as a way of reducing the imports of raw materials for the production of Nestle products. 

The Corporate Communications & Public Affairs Manager of Nestle Ghana Ama Amoah stated this when the Parliamentary Press Corps visited the Nestle Factory in Tema. 

In Ghana, Nestlé is faced with a number of challenges including securing a reliable supply of cocoa as a result of a decline in the quality of cocoa beans.

According to Madam Amoah the company works in collaboration with agro base NGO, Source Trust formerly Armajaro, to train the farmers on sustainable agricultural practices, and improve access to education for children. 

Farmers who are part of the Plan receive premiums for investing in sustainable and traceable cocoa production.
