Dr. Mary Grant to be buried October 21 A former Member of the Council of State, Dr. Mary Grant will be buried on Friday, October 21, 2016. Dr. Mary Grant died on Sunday, September 18 at the 37 Military Hospital. She was 88. Burial service will be preceded by song ministration service at the Calvary Methodist Church at 6.30pm on Wednesday, October 19. The public will be allowed to file past her body on Friday, October 21 at 7.00am. Dr. Mary Grant will be given a private burial after which the final funeral rites will be held at the forecourt of the State House. There will be no wreath laying ceremony. Dr. Mary Grant was born on August, 6 1928. She was an astute Ghanaian politician, a first female council of state member and also the first Wesley Girls High School alumni to be a medical doctor Dr. Grant was among the last batch of PNDC members until the country returned to constitutional rule in 1993. She held many positions which includes Deputy Minister of Health, Member of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC). She later became the Minister of Education and Culture and also a Member of Council of State In 2012, she was honored at the Ghana Women Awards, the premier awards ceremony aimed at celebrating the success of women of excellence in various facets of the society.
