Former MCE appeals for political neutrality ahead of KMA polls

Former Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Samuel Sarpong has appealed to the assembly members of the KMA to bury their political and parochial interests and elect a Presiding Member on Tuesday. 

He said their failure to elect a Presiding Member is impeding development of the metropolis. 

In an interview with Radio Ghana in Kumasi, Mr. Sarpong, who is also a former Ashanti Regional Minister, said the assembly members stand to lose a lot in terms of development in their electoral areas. 

They should therefore put their acts to together and elect a Presiding Member who will lead them in the development of their areas. He said the violence that has characterised the election of a Presiding Member in recent times is given the assembly a bad image in the country.

Mr. Sarpong, who is also the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Nhyiaeso in Kumasi, said he is highly optimistic of winning the seat to succeed NPP’s Dr Richard Anane, a former Minister of Health and Transport during Kufuor’s administration. 

He told Radio Ghana’s Seth Eyiah that though the task is daunting, but not unsurmountable. He said the Nhyiaeso constituency is made up of a lot of elites most of whom support him because he stands tall among all the other parliamentary candidates.
