Gov’t to install intelligent traffic signal systems at traffic prone areas

President John Dramani Mahama says traffic prone areas in the country will no longer experience heavy vehicular traffic because government will install sophisticated traffic lights in traffic prone areas.

President Mahama said: “In order to ease traffic in the major cities, we will introduce intelligent traffic signal systems”

President Mahama said this when he outlined the key areas of the 2016 manifesto of the NDC at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Accra on Tuesday.

He explained that the sophisticated traffic lights will be able to detect which side of the road is experiencing heavy vehicular traffic and will quickly give priority to vehicles on that part of the road.

“It's my intention that by 2021, Ghana will have the best road network in West Africa.”

President Mahama also said his government intends to construct a dual carriage road on the “Accra-Kumasi and Accra-Takoradi and Aflao to Accra roads” in his second term.

He further promised to construct two bridges over the Tema Motorway to give road users an easy access to East Legon and also to stop using the Cattle Tunnel.
