Water Shortage Hits Kyebi

Water shortage has hit Kyebi and its surrounding towns in the Eastern Region for the past three weeks. 

The people are said to rely on the two boreholes in the town to get water for their daily activities. 

The Regional Manager of the Ghana Water Company, Martin Ansah Asante told GBC’s Agatha Asamoah on ‘Behind the News’, that the problem has come about as a result of the breakdown of the water supply system which was originally constructed to supply some nine hundred thousand people is been over used.

Meanwhile, a former Executive Secretary of the Water Resource Commission, Ben Ampomah, blames the problem of water shortages on human activities. 

He said the Birim River which serves Kyebi has fallen into the hands of illegal miners.
