Heavy Coastal Storm Renders Thousands Homeless

A heavy coastal storm stretching from Axim through Bortianor, Ada, Aflao and other fishing communities has rendered thousands of fisher folk homeless with property running into millions of cedis destroyed. 

The MP for Ngleshie-Amanfro in Accra, Bright Demordzi told GBC’s George Ankrah that the devastation has affected the livelihoods of fishermen and fishmongers rendering them more impoverished. 

Mr Demordzi expressed appreciation to the Regional Minister and the Minister of Fisheries for responding promptly to the distress calls and appealed for emergency government intervention.

Mr Demordzi prescribed some long term remedies including the establishment of landing beaches, insurance of boats and outboard motors and constant education on safety rules.
