NHIS Director wins NDC parliamentary slot for Bunkpurugu A Director of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in charge of quantity assurance, Anthony Gingon has emerged winner in the hotly contested NDC parliamentary primary for the Bunkpurugu Constituency of the Northern region. Mr. Gingong believed to be a confidante of President John Dramani Mahama beat four other candidates to win the slot. He polled 2,542 votes to beat his direct contender, Dr. Benson Konlan who polled 2, 271 votes out of the total votes cast of 6, 628. Other contestants, Jahong Tahidu, polled 1,066 votes, Azumah Konlan, 196 votes, and Duut Bonchel Abdulai 570 votes. Over 9,000 Delegates were expected to vote in 27 polling stations, but close to 3,000 voters could not turn up for the exercise. The Bunkpurugu constituency primary was put on hold last year following a legal battle between the party and a former MP, Nambuar Berrick. The Newly elected NDC parliamentary candidate, Anthony Gingong in his victory speech pledged to work closely with the rank and file of the party to unseat the incumbent NPP MP, Solomon Boar. He also pledged to facilitate the developmental agenda of the area when given the mandate in the November polls. The NDC National Youth Organizer, Sidik Abubakar challenged the various contestants to see the primary as a family affair and work hard to recapture the seat from NPP. The beauty of the exercise was nearly marred by a total blackout and heavy downpour in the constituency. It took presiding officers in the remote areas several hours to transfer results from the various polling stations to the final collation center in the Bunkpurugu Township as a result of the downpour. The exercise eventually ended at about 10pm. GBC
