Pre-burial service held for late Abetifi MP Peter Wiafe Pepera 


A pre-burial service has been held for the late Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Hon. Peter Wiafe Pepera in Accra today.

The late MP, was laid in state at the forecourt of the State House for a state assisted funeral service. 

Mr. Pepera, who was 62 and from Abetifi would be buried after Requiem Mass at Chapel/Mausoleum  on Saturday, July 23, 2016, at 08:00 am at Abetifi in the Eastern region.

He died on Saturday, May 23, 2016, at the 37 Military Hospital, after a short illness. 

In a tribute, Parliament of Ghana described him as a diligent member who availed Parliament of his rich experience and expertise as an academic and a typical businessman. 

Until his death, Hon. Pepera was a member of the Committee of the Privileges, trade and industry and House Committees. 

He has been the Member of Parliament for Abetifi Constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party since 2009 until his demise. 

The Member of Parliament served in National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration under former President Rawlings as Deputy Minister of Trade, and later joined New Patriotic Party in 2001.

BIOGRAPHY:

The late Hon. Peter Wiafe Pepera who was affectionately called ‘Pete’ was born in Stuttgart, Germany on 9th May 1954. 

He attended a boys' Preparatory Boarding School in Sussex, South-East England called Skippers Hills Manor from 1963, and continued his studies at Dover College Public School in Dover, Kent in 1967. 

After securing a degree at Imperial College in London, Peter landed his first job with Siamens in Germany.

He later gained admission to Birmingham University to study for an MSC in Computer Systems Analysis. Thereafter, he landed a job at nearby British Leyland's Solihull manufacturing plant.

After completing his stint at Solihull, driven by what turned out to be a lifelong entrepreneurial desire to contribute to business development in his home country in the mould of his father, Peter returned to Ghana. 

In 1998, Peter decided to enter the realm of politics in a bid to assist with the development of his country. 

That year, he was appointed the Deputy Minister of Trade and industry in the NDC Government of H.E Jerry John Rawlings.

He left behind his widow, Jemaimah Amipare, and nine children.
