Major General Obed Akwa named new Chief of Army Staff President John Mahama, has in consultation with the Council of State appointed Major General Obed Boamah Akwa as Chief of Army Staff. In a statement, the Ghana Armed Forces said his appointment takes immediate effect. Major General Obed Boamah Akwa was until his appointment, the Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre. President Mahama has also on the recommendations of the Ghana Armed Forces Council, approved the promotion of Brigadier General W. A. Ayamdo and Brigadier General S. K. Adeti to the rank of Major General while Commodore Amoama moves to the Rear Admiral rank and Air Commodore G. S. Evans gets promoted to the rank of Air Vice Marshal. Meanwhile, President Mahama has endorsed the appointments of Major General W. A. Ayamdo as Commandant of the Military Academy and Training School . Air Vice Marshal G.S. Evans takes over as the Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre and Rear Admiral S.Amoama is now the Commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College. In a related development the following have also been appointed General Commanding Officers. The Northern Command will be headed by Brigadier General S. B. Alloh, Brigadier General C. B. Alhassan- Central Command, Brigadier General F. Ofori- Commander, Special Services Brigade. GBC
