Ghana marks 56th Republican status and Senior Citizens Day 

Today marks 56 years since Ghana declared a Republican status. It was that day on July 1, 1960 when Ghana took the bold decision to sever its colonial relations with the United Kingdom.  

It means since then Ghana has been fully in charge of her own destiny and managing her own affairs as the first President and founder of the Republic, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah used to say.
