Seed production in Ghana declines 

Certified seed production in the country has declined by two thirds between 2010 and 2015

A research conducted by the Agricultural Technology Transfer, ATT, seed team in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions revealed that, only sixteen percent of the certified seed requirement for maize, eleven percent of rice and six percent of soy is produced in the country.

The research team explained that, the deficit is filled by low yielding seeds produced by farmers.

At a stakeholders meeting in Tamale, actors in the seed value chain attributed Ghana’s low agricultural productivity to the use of low yielding seeds and pledged to work together to increase supply.
