Symposium on safety of journalists seeks to preserve press freedom 

More than 700 journalists and others who report the news have been killed over the past decade, according to data collected by the UN cultural organization, UNESCO. 

The agency is bringing together journalists, broadcasters and media executives from across the world at a symposium this Friday in Paris to advocate for greater safety in the profession. 

For Marius Lukosiunas, a Program Specialist in UNESCO Communication and Information Sector, the killing of a journalist is "an ultimate form of censorship."
