NPA asks commuters and transport operators to exercise patience as authorities agree on percentage increase in transport fares

The Executive Secretary of the National Petroleum Authority, Moses Asaga says the Bench mark price decrease announced by the Authority in the petroleum prices are positive sentiments as a result of the down turn in the prices of crude oil on the world market.  

Mr. Asaga told Radio Ghana that the NPA is surprised that the GPRTU and other Unions have suddenly pegged their increase at 15 percent in transport fares instead of ten percent.

Mr. Asaga also said meetings between the two parties would continue today and accused the GPRTU of bad faith.  

He asked the private and public transport operators to wait for the two sides to agree on a fixed fare before any announcement. 

Meanwhile the Oil Marketing Companies say they are not into price regulations. What they are involved in is advocacy.

The Executive Director of the Bulk Oil Company Senyo Hosi told Radio Ghana that, Civil society groups and professionals should put their shoulders to the wheel by contributing to ensure that the common man is not unduly cheated.  

Some taxi drivers, especially on the Madina - Adentan - Circle route have appealed to the Transport Authorities to explain how much they are to charge passengers with the 15 percent transport fare increase announcement. 

The drivers do not also understand the two and four percent decrease in the fuel prices released by the National Petroleum Authority-NPA.  

Speaking to George Ankrah in an interview,a taxi driver, Douglas Antwi Obeng said the Transport Unions and the NPA should have met and agreed on the transport fares before any public announcement  .
