Small-scale farmers worried over fertilizer subsidy

Government appears to be withdrawing its support for subsidized fertilizer to non-cash crop farmers across the country.

As at September this year no subsidized fertilizer had been provided to farmers.

The fertilizer subsidy has also not been captured in next year's budget.

This is a worry to many small-scale farmers who cannot afford to purchase the fertilizer from the open market.

The Deputy Ranking Member on Food, Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs Committee of Parliament, William Agyapong Quaittoo who said this, wondered why in the 2014 budget fertilizer subsidy was mentioned but not supplied to the farmers.

Mr. Quaittoo was speaking at a National Policy Dialogue on Agriculture Programme organized by SEND-GHANA in Accra.
