Parliament Debates On 2015 Budget

Debate on the 2015 financial policy of government has begun in Parliament.

Kick starting it, the Chairman of the Finance Committee, James Avedzi touted the achievement of government in 2014, citing the migrate on of all the public sector workers on to the Single Spine Salary and the paying of workers’ salary arrears as major feats chalked up by government.

He said government growth projection of six point nine percent is a good target taking into consideration the global economic growth rate.

He said several interventions in the budget project exceptional growth for next year.

Radio Ghana's correspondent Dominic Hlordzi and Augustus Acquaye also report that the 2015 Budget was presented by the Minister of Finance, Seth Tekper last Week.

Setting the tone for analyzing the financial statement of government for next year, the Chairman of the Finance Committee James Klutse Avedzi said the successes that government has accomplished will be consolidated next year through the budget.

The Ranking  member on the Finance Committee, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei  government is seeking to commit an illegality with the budget.

He said as at September this year, government had not paid the social security contributions of workers and that by approving the budget, parliament will be condoning illegality.

He also said when it comes to budgets; government does not keep its word.

The Deputy Minister of Finance and MP for Ajumako Enyan Esiam Cassiel Ato Forson stressed the need for the country to generate more revenue to spearhead development.

The deputy Minority Leader, Dominic Nitiwul said the country’s economy keeps deteriorating.

The Speaker of Parliament referred a communication from the Presidency on the nomination of Dr. Kwabena Donkor, Mp for Pru East, as Minister of Power to the appointments committee for consideration.
