More cases resolved in Ashanti through ADR

The Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanism, ADR, is making a significant contribution to amicable settlement of litigation in the Ashanti Region and bringing relief to aggrieved parties.

Out of the 96 cases brought to the Regional ADR Secretariat for out of court settlement last year, 58 of them were successfully settled without the usual time consuming and expensive judicial adjudication.

Speaking to Radio Ghana in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Coordinator of ADR, Emmanuel Berchie Berko, explained that all cases meant for ADR settlement must first be lodged with the courts during which the parties must also consent to the amicable resolution out of court.

According to him, every case at the courts, including those at the Supreme Court can be settled through the ADR mechanism.

 Most of the cases resolved in the region are marriage related.

Mr Berko gave the assurance that the ADR process is confidential, cost effective, and non-adversarial such that no winner or loser is declared through mediation and sometimes negotiations when necessary.
