China’s Xi Jinpin pledges not to use force to further China’s agenda

Chinese President Xi Jinpin has pledged not to use force to further china's agenda adding that his country is “dedicated to upholding peace”.

President Xi said a review of history shows that countries that attempted to pursue development with force invariably failed.

Addressing the Australian parliament President Xi said China is committed to upholding peace which he described as precious and needs to be protected, President Xi, indirectly referred to the territorial disputes China has been locked in.

China and Japan, the two biggest economies in Asia, have claimed islands, known in China as the Diaoyu and in Japan as the Senkakus.

Both nations have repeatedly scrambled fighter jets following reports of alleged incursions and engaged in powerful rhetoric, fuelling fears the dispute could lead to large-scale confrontation.

China’s president Xi Jinping visited Canberra after the conclusion of the G20 summit in Brisbane, Australia.
