Portuguese Interior Minister resigns over alleged corruption scandal

Portugal's Interior Minister, Miguel Macedo, has resigned following an investigation into alleged corruption deal linked to the allocation of resident permits.

Mr. Macedo said he is not implicated in the scandal but is resigning to preserve the credibility of state institutions.

Police have arrested 11 people, including the head of the country's immigration service.

The 11 are suspected of corruption, money-laundering, influence-peddling and embezzlement.
