Talks to resolve crisis in Burkina Faso at "critical point"


The next few days are going to be critical in negotiations to resolve the political crisis in Burkina Faso, according to the top UN envoy in the region.

Mohammed Ibn Chambas the Special Representative for West Africa is following the talks from the Burkinabe capital, Ouagadougou.

A framework for a transitional government in Burkina Faso has been agreed after talks between political, military and civil leaders.

The plan was agreed unanimously, however, a new leader was not named.

The transitional body is intended to return the country to civilian rule and prepare for elections next year.

The country was plunged into crisis after President Blaise Campaoré attempted to change the constitution and extend his 27 year rule.

He resigned in October and then fled the country in the face of popular protests.
