Burkina Faso transition plan agreed

A Framework for a transitional government in Burkina Faso has been agreed upon after talks between political, military and civil leaders.

A spokesman for the talks in Ouagadougou said the charter project was agreed on unanimously.

The transitional body is intended to return the country to civilian rule and prepare for elections.

The army took power after President Blaise Compaore was forced to resign on 31st October amid mass protests.

Both soldiers and civilians agreed on a civilian transition.

Lt Col Isaac Zida declared himself head of the West African state on 1st November when President Compaore fled to neighbouring Cote D'Ivoire after 27 years in power.

The AU issued a two-week deadline for the authorities to restore the country to civilian rule or face possible sanctions.
