Amoateng’s case: woman gives evidence on alleged passport forgery The woman whose passport was allegedly forged and used by former MP for Nkoranza Eric Amoateng has given evidence at the trial of the former MP. Amoateng is being tried by an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly possessing a fake passport. The witness Barbara Inkoom's photograph was originally on the passport but was allegedly substituted for Amoateng's. According to Barbara in 2008 she was assisted by a friend Kwaku Obeng to establish contact with one Frank at the passport office in Accra. The supposed Frank was to help her acquire a passport. Continuing, the witness said she forwarded all the necessary documents and an amount of 150 Ghana cedis to Frank to complete the process. The documents which include two passport photographs, passport form and a birth certificate were tendered in court as exhibit. Barbara however stated that after some time she lost contact with both Kwaku and Frank and therefore never received the passport. The State last week tendered the alleged forge passport in court. The first prosecution witness who is the Assistant controller of Immigration Service who tendered in the document told the court that after collecting the passport from Amoateng, he checked the bio-data and found out that the original photograph had been substituted. Amoateng arrived in the country last August after serving a ten year jail term in the US over narcotic related charges. Source: GBC
