Two volunteers enable 130 children benefit from polio immunisation exercise The spirit of patriotism of two volunteers, have enabled 130 children due for immunisation to benefit from the exercise at Obeng Island a community on the Volta Lake near Nkonya Tepo in the Biakoye District of the Volta Region. The two volunteers hired a canoe to ferry, the children on the Island to the vaccination centre. Speaking to Radio Ghana, one of the volunteers Anyi Kuleke, said attempts to get appropriate means of transport which would have taken eight minutes rather took them an hour amidst storms on the Volta Lake. Several attempts and appeals to some fishermen to help them cross the lake to immunise the children also proved futile as a result of acute fuel shortage. Mr. Kuleke said looking at the period and time frame for the exercise, they were moved to look for a canoe to reach out to the children. GBC
