President Dramani Mahama Meets with Pope Francis

President Mahama Monday met with Pope Francis at the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City. The meeting was held behind closed doors.

A communique released after the meeting said the discussions between the Pope and President Mahama were “cordial.”

According to the commnique, President Mahama and Pope Francis noted the good relations between the Holy See and Ghana and underlined the positive contribution offered by the Catholic Church in the social, educational and healthcare spheres, as well as in relation to the promotion of dialogue between the different members of society.

Finally, they also discussed current international issues, particularly the Ebola epidemic that has rocked West Africa. 

NGO’s and many Catholic charity organizations are working to help those affected by the virus in the areas most affected including Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

President Mahama also met with the Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, accompanied by Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, Secretary for Relations with States.
