Guidelines for use of mineral royalties by MMDAs launched

The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative report indicates that most Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies do not use mineral royalties paid to them for development projects in their mining communities.

To this end, comprehensive guidelines have been prepared for the use of mineral royalties by MMDAs.

Speaking at the launch of the guidelines in Accra, the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Nii Lantey Vanderpuije urged stakeholders to discuss the guidelines and come out with appropriate framework to ensure transparency, accountability and satisfaction in the utilisation of mineral royalties.
