UN lacks resources to defeat Ebola

The Head of the UN mission charged with fighting Ebola in some West African countries, Tony Banbury says the organisation does not yet have the resources necessary to defeat the disease.

Mr. Banbury says more help is urgently needed, despite significant contributions from the UK, China, Cuba and the US.

He is however hopeful of achieving the target of 70 per cent bed space for new cases and 70 per cent safe burials by December.

The WHO confirms the death toll to be at about 4, 818.

The numbers are down since the WHO previously reported figures, saying it has changed the way the figures are collated.

In the country’s worst affected by the outbreak, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, transmission remains persistent and widespread, particularly the capital cities.
