Second round of polio immunization programme ongoing 

The second round of the nationwide immunisation programme against polio is ongoing throughout the country.

The Ghana Health Service is spearheading the immunisation with support from a pool of donor partners.

The programme targets more than five million children between ages zero to five years.

National Programme Manager Dr .George Bonsu is asking parents to ensure that children are immunised for greater protection against the disease.

Ghana has not recorded any polio case for the past five years except for a temporary setback in 2008, when eight wild polio virus cases were reported.

The immunisation against polio ends throughout the country on Saturday.
