Government to Source Funds to Upgrade Ejura Agricultural College 


Government is sourcing for funds for the upgrading of the Ejura Agricultural College at the Ejura Sekyeredumase Municipality of Ashanti to a Diploma awarding institution. 

To be able to meet the requirements of the National Accreditation Board; there is an urgent need to improve on the physical infrastructure in the college. 

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Samuel Sarpong announced this at the 50TH Anniversary celebrations of the College at Ejura.

The Ejura Agricultural College was established in 1964 as a centre to equip farmers with relevant farm machinery to service the then workers Brigade Farms in and around Ejura and later transformed to a Farm Institute. 

In 1977 the centre became a fully-fledge Agricultural College offering a three year Certificate Programme in General Agriculture to O’level  and WAEC certificate holders.  

The  Golden Jubilee event which brought together agriculturalists, traditional rulers, researchers, academicians, politicians and alumni of the college was under the theme: “The Agricultural Training College; Empowering the Youth with Entrepreneurial Skills for Self-Employment”. 


The Regional Minister Dr. Samuel Sarpong said in recognizing development, the government has over the years continued to provide financial, material and technical support to the colleges for the training of manpower requirements in agriculture. 

This trend however, requires a second look as
it has become necessary for the youth to be equipped with adequate training to enable graduates of the College to take the place of aging farmer.  

The Principal of the College Robert Ayamga expressed serious concern about the deteriorating nature of the mechanization centre at the college and therefore appealed for urgent need for refurbishment of the equipment and the structure to make it serve the growing needs of students. 

Highlight of the event was the graduation of 79 students and Matriculation of one hundred and 20 first year students.
