Health Minister Appeals to Striking Health Workers to Call Off Action The Minister of Health Dr Kweku Agyemang - Mensah has appealed to health workers on strike to call off their action as Government seeks to address their concerns regarding the release of their second tier pension contributions. The Minister who had to cancel an official trip to China, made the appeal when he met the leadership of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA). The Doctors and eleven other public sector unions are on an indefinite strike to demand the release of the funds to private managers on their behalf, but the Government is hesitant in doing so. Various public hospitals around the country have started turning away Out-Patients as part of the strike. They are, however, attending to emergencies, thus the meeting between the leadership of the GMA and the Minister. According to Dr Agyemang - Mensah the doctors have assured him that they will take the case to their group, because there are about four units in that group. GBC
