Rural and Community Banks commended for contribution to  economic development

The Brong-Ahafo Regional Manager of the Bank of Ghana, Peter Intsiful has commended Rural and Community Banks for their contribution to the economic development of the country adding that their inter-mediation activities have been remarkable.

He was inaugurating a Branch of the Derma Area Rural Bank at Penkwase, a suburb of Sunyani.

According to Mr. Intsiful, total assets of these banks grew by 18 point 68 per cent year-on-year from one point six-two billion cedis in August last year, to one point nine-two billion cedis for the same period this year.

He said the banks sub-sector contributed three point five percent of the banking industry.
