Public Sector Workers on strike over release of second tier pension fund

Public Sector Workers across the country are on strike to press home demands for the release of the second-tier pension fund. 

The President of NAGRAT, Christian Addai-Poku who spoke to Radio Ghana said all available means to get government to release the funds to workers for disbursement have failed. 

Mr Addai-Opoku says if the demands of organised labour are not met members will not go back to work. 

He said organised labour is expected to honour an invitation from the Sector Minister, Haruna Iddrisu later on Wednesday on the issue. 

Meanwhile, Deputy Secretary General of the TUC, Dr Anthony Yaw Baah, says the disagreement between government and organised labour over which companies to manage the second tier of workers’ pension fund is the cause of the current strike. 

He said while organised labour has identified some companies to manage the fund, government on the other hand is proposing a different company. 

He however expressed the hope that immediate solution would be found to the current stalemate to enable workers to go back to work.
