Government declares first Saturday of every month sanitation day Government has declared the first Saturday of every month a day for sanitation. The first of November will be used to officially launch the programme. Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Nii Lantey Vanderpuije, whose ministry is spearheading the move, is optimistic that people will come in their numbers to clean their communities. Speaking at this year’s Global Hand Washing Day in Accra, Mr. Vanderpuije said promoting health is one of the steps towards the development of quality life. He said through community initiatives, people will gradually inculcate the habit as well as regularly washing their hands with soap and water to prevent infectious disease. Source: GBC
