Dr Whyte Kpessa To Act As Executive Director Of National Service Scheme

Presidential Staffer, Dr. Michael Whyte Kpessa, has been reassigned to the National Service Scheme pending the appointment by the President of a substantive Executive Director.

Dr. Kpessa, a former university lecturer, is expected to guide the operations of the Scheme during the period of ongoing investigations.

With interests in Governance, Institutional Design, Social Policy & Public Administration, Dr. Kpessa who is a member of the Policy Team at the Presidency is expected to implement Presidential directives, among others, aimed at restoring the values of the National Service Scheme and its key objectives.

An investigation by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) into the activities of the NSS revealed that 22,612 non-existent national service persons in more than 100 districts across the country in July, had each been paid an allowance of Ghc350 a month amounting to Ghc7.9 million.

The discovery led to the suspension of the Executive Director of the Scheme, Alhaji Alhassan Imoro, and other officials, whom among others , enticed the BNI officers with bribes.

The suspended NSS officials are currently under further investigations.
