Increasing Number Of High Rise Buildings In
Accra

The Skyline of Accra is gradually changing. High rise huildings are
springing up all over the Eight Capital. One can imagine what the
city's skyline will look like in say five years. It will be a sight to
behold. Some would say it is a mark or sign of development. Yes this
could be true. But are we doing things the right way? What agency or
agencies are in charge of evaluating such buildings. Are the
construction firms and by extension the owners using the right
methods. Are these companies using the right materials. Has the
Geological Surveys Department been involved in the design, for it is
no secret that Accra is in an earthquake zone. No one is trying to say
any underhand moves took place, but just to caution that human beings
would occupy these buildings either as residents or will work in
offices located in these buildings in the future. As such, all that is
necessary must be done to ensure that these buildings are safe and
secure come storms, rain, earthquakes and other natural occurences. We
have every cause to caution, for it is gradually emerging that some
Ghanaians in position of trust are throwing caution to the wind and
engaging in act that deny our country value for money. There are
