Fatau Dauda rejoins Ashgold

Black Stars goalkeeper, Fatau Dauda, last Tuesday signed a one-year contract with Ashgold to finally end the troubles that had plagued his club career for two years.

The 28-year-old goalkeeper completed his registration for the upcoming First Capital Plus League and began training last Wednesday at Obuasi with an audacious ambition to reclaim his position as the number one goalie of the miners.

But it appears Fatau will not have an easy ride at Ashgold as the club’s regular goalkeeper, Robert Dabuo,  seems poised to give his senior some fierce competition.

Kudjoe Fianoo, CEO of Ashgold, confirming Fatau’s signing disclosed yesterday that the club agreed terms with the Black Stars goalkeeper before his arrival in the country from South Africa.

He said the doors of the club were always opened for Fatau whom he described as one of the most dedicated players of the club in recent times.

“I am happy that he (Fatau) arrived at Obuasi less than 24 hours after arrival from South Africa, it showed how poised he is to do something for himself , particularly reviving his club career  to maintain his position as the Stars leading goalkeeper,” he stated.

“Fatau spoke to us last week about his distress in South Africa, with Chippa United and the possibility to sign for us and we obliged”, Fianoo added.

 Fatau, who signed for Orlando Pirates on the heels of his captivating exploits at the 2013 AFCON in South Africa was subsequently consigned to the bench which compelled the Ghanaian goalkeeper to look for fresh challenges as his international career appeared threatened.

Indeed, before the 2014 World Cup, Fatau saw his position as the nation’s number one goalkeeper  moving towards his assistant, Adam Kwarasey due to inactivity, but for a twist of fate he managed to salvage the position as he kept the post in matches against Germany and Portugal.

But the writings were clear on the wall and he needed some playing time and that might have moved him to secure a release from Pirates to another South African side, Chippa United in August this year, but that was shortlived as Fatau cancelled the deal following the failure of Chippa to pay him his signing on fees and salaries after playing a game for them.
