Tobacco related deaths expected to increase to 10 million globally by 2025

Globally, five million people die annually from tobacco smoking or use. 

This figure is expected to increase to 10 million by 2025 if appropriate tobacco control strategies are not put in place.

70% of these deaths will be in developing countries due to weak or lack of tobacco control legislation and unavailable health infrastructure and resources. 

This came to light at a training programme for journalists, organised by Vision for Alternative Development, VALD an NGO, ahead of a Conference scheduled to take place in Russia next month.
