World Pharmacy Day in Ghana

As the world marks Pharmacists Day, the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana has reiterated the call on government to as a matter of urgency take steps to ensure that every district in the country is serviced by at least two pharmacists in both public and private health facilities.

This will be a step towards achieving speedy access to pharmacists and pharmaceutical care.

The President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, James Ohemeng Kyei who made this known at the launch of the World Pharmacists Day at Amasaman near Accra said Ghana is far from the World Health Organisation's recommended pharmacist to population ratio of one to 2000.

The country's ratio stands at one pharmacist to 12,500.

This he said is further worsened by the gross geographical imbalance with most pharmacists in only a few major regional capitals.
