US to sell missiles to Poland amid Russia tensions

The United States plans to sell 40 air-launched-missiles to Poland as the Eastern European country further strengthens its defense amid the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. 

The air-to-surface missiles can carry one thousand pound warheads and have a far longer maximum range than the ones Poland is currently is equipped with.

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency says the weapons will act as a deterrent to regional threats.

It further states that the sale will contribute to the foreign policy and the national security objectives of the United States by helping to improve the security of a NATO ally.

The US State Department yesterday approved the $ 500 million deal saying that Poland continues to be an important force for political stability and economic progress in Central Europe.
