Climate marchers due to take to streets of New York


Tens of thousands of people are expected to march through the centre of New York on Sunday to protest about a lack of international action to stop climate change.

The UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, is joining politicians, celebrities, activists and the general public to highlight global concerns about the dangers of changes in climatic conditions.

The negative impacts of the phenomenon include rising sea levels, extreme weather events and temperature variations.
The People's Climate March is taking place two days before a summit, convened by Mr Ban at UN headquarters.

The summit will bring together over 120 heads of state and government in order to build momentum for a global agreement on tackling climate change.

It's hoped that world leaders will agree to a deal in Paris, France in 2015.
