Interior Ministry to review outmoded laws that affect prisoner rights

The Minister of the Interior, Mark Woyongo, says the Ministry is putting together a team of legal experts to review outmoded laws that affect prisoner rights and to push for non-custodial sentences to reduce congestion in the country's prisons.

Speaking at a durbar for Prison Officers in Accra on his maiden visit as Minister to the Prison Headquarters, Mr. Woyongo bemoaned indiscriminate sentences handed down to offenders of the law, a situation he believes has contributed to the massive congestion in the country's Prisons.
