Ghana joins other West African Countries in nationwide Polio Immunisation

The National Immunisation Programme will from Thursday begin the immunisation of children under five against polio. 

The exercise has become necessary because although Ghana has not recorded a case since 2002, there are reported cases in neighbouring West African countries. 

Two weeks ago, Nigeria recorded six cases, while Equatorial Guinea and Cameroun also recorded five each.

According to health authorities, Ghana is at risk especially in this era of frequent travels.

The Programme Manager of the expanded programme on immunisation, Dr George Bonsu, says the exercise has also being replicated in other West African countries.
