Most neonatal deaths can be prevented - UNICEF


Despite dramatic progress on child survival, one million babies die the day they are born from mostly preventable causes, according to the UN's Children's Fund (UNICEF).

Data from a new report released on Tuesday by UNICEF show that the first 28 days of a newborn's life are the most vulnerable with almost 2.8 million babies dying each year during this period.

Many of these deaths could be prevented with simple, cost-effective measures.

Stephanie Coutrix met with Dr Tessa Wardlaw, the Chief of Data and Analytics at UNICEF,  to highlight the new analysis on child mortality throughout the world.
