Workers forced to resign or forfeit redundancy entitlements

About ninety percent of workers at Top Industries in Accra have been forced by the Management of the Company to write resignation letters or forfeit their redundancy entitlements. 

This came up when the leadership of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union, ICU, visited the Company yesterday.

According to the workers, they were afraid of losing their redundancy package as being speculated by Management; therefore they had to write their resignation letters so they do not to lose years of labour in the Company.

Speaking to Radio Ghana, the Deputy General Secretary in charge of Operations of the ICU, Morgan Ayawine said Management has no right to force any worker to write a resignation letter until the mother Union comes to an agreement concerning their redundancy package.

He said such intimidation on the part of Management is a breach of the labour law; and the Union will do all it can to resolve the issue.
