AFS-Global affirms commitment to work promote Africa

Reverend Allan Okomeng-Mensah, Chairman of American Field Service AFS, Ghana has won the coveted prize, Steve Galati award for being the most outstanding volunteer for last year.

He becomes the first African to receive the award.

The award is named after Steve Galati, founder of the AFS Student Exchange Programme.

Conferring the award on Rev Okomeng-Mensah at a dinner dance to commemorate the centenary celebration of AFS Ghana, the International President of AFS, Vincenzo Morlini described Rev Okomeng as an exceptional leader who brings quality to the AFS concept.

He said AFS is not just an Agency but a community of people sharing value in diversity.

 Mr. Morlini said thousands of people have benefited from the volunteering world adding that volunteerism is all that AFS stands for.

He said AFS has more than 40 thousand volunteers in 59 countries Africa stand out as one of the best continents.

The national Director of AFS Ghana, Kwame Otchere commended AFS volunteers for working to make the world a better place. 

Other award winners were the MP for Kwesimintim, Joe Baidu-Ansah and Lawyer Philip Addison. Deborah Nyarko was also honoured for long service.
