Unauthorized Construction Kill 6 in Egypt A textile dyeing factory has collapsed in Egypt, killing six people and injuring 22 in an accident blamed on poor construction. According to the head of the Interior Ministry's Public Safety Department, Gamal Al-Taruti, a "design defect" caused the disaster near the capital Cairo yesterday. He told the media, the building did not meet construction standards. A judicial source, on condition of anonymity said, an initial investigation revealed that the accident was caused by the unauthorised construction of a third floor at the factory. The source further stated that an entrepreneur involved in the construction has been detained, while arrest warrants have been issued for two others as well as the owners of the building. Such accidents are common in Egypt where many buildings are old and violations of construction laws are frequent. Source: News24
